Zoan in the Bible — Hidden Meaning & Symbolism

Zoan, zo'–an (Heb. fr. Egypt.)-- depressed region; low region; loading beasts for a journey; departure; removal; migration. A very prominent city of ancient Egypt, built seven years later than Hebron (Num. 13:22). It was a dwelling place of some of the kings or princes of Egypt (Isa. 19:11; 30:4). Its destruction is prophesied in Ezekiel 30:14. The" field of Zoan" (Psalms 78:12) no doubt refers to the plain that was about the city. Meta. A lowered state of vitality, a depressed, dejected, unstable center of thought activity in the subconscious phase of mind in man (depressed region, low region, migration, a city and a plain in Egypt). This state of thought is due to the belief that man, and especially the substance of which his body is composed, is material and is separate from the one ever present Source of unlimited, never ending life, vitality, substance, strength, and joy.
