About This Dictionary

Secret Scripture is a searchable reference of the metaphysical and allegorical interpretations of Bible words, names, and symbols.

It draws primarily on the Unity / Metaphysical Bible tradition — most famously the Metaphysical Bible Dictionary published by Charles Fillmore — which reads Scripture as a symbolic map of human consciousness and the body. It also honors the "hidden meanings" allegorical school, which decodes the Bible as spiritual symbolism and neuro-theology.

Every entry here is provided as an interpretive resource for study and reflection. It is not literal history, not a statement of church doctrine, and not a replacement for any reader's own faith tradition.

Why two meanings?

The Bible speaks on many levels at once. A single word — fish, say — can mean faith and soul in one school and ideas of increase in another. Secret Scripture embraces that richness by documenting the deeper, symbolic readings that a plain dictionary misses.
