What Does the Serpent Mean in the Bible?

Serpent = the untamed energy and desire of the lower mind — the tempting, sense-thinking that enters and disturbs inner peace (the garden). It is not a talking snake. The serpent is the raw life-force and desire in you: unawakened it leads you astray (eden), lifted up it heals you (the staff). The same energy, mastered, becomes wisdom.

How it shows up in the Bible

The same serpent appears twice in the same book and does opposite things. In the garden it talks a mind into a fall. In the wilderness Moses lifts a bronze one on a pole and whoever looks at it is healed. It is one energy, not two creatures: appetite that is either obeyed or raised up. That is why Jesus points back to the lifted serpent when he describes his own lifting.

Read the whole map. Every symbol in the Bible is a state of your own mind — the book lays out the entire system, from Genesis to Revelation, in plain language.
