Cross in the Bible — Hidden Meaning & Symbolism
Cross = your body. That is why it is cross-shaped: the upright beam is the spine, the horizontal bar is the outstretched arms. 'Take up your cross' = take up your own body, and on it put to death the lower self so the true self can live.
