smiting; wounding; slaying; afflicting; decreasing; consuming of strength; pining away; poor. Father of Geuel of the tribe of Gad. Geuel was the man chosen from that tribe to aid in spying out the land of Canaan (Num. 13:15). Meta. The natural reaction in man when his power faculty is used as a destructive force (Machi was of the tribe of Gad, and Gad refers to the power faculty in man). Man can never abide consciously in overcoming power, strength, and dominion until he develops true understanding, love, good judgment, and the other faculties of the mind, and expresses power in right relation to them. Having done that, he will be constructive in all of his activities, and his reaping will be good.
