Gether in the Bible — Hidden Meaning & Symbolism
abundance pressed out; reciprocal increase; vale of trial. Son of Aram, who was the son of Shem (Gen. 10:23). Meta. Shem, son of Noah, stands for the spiritual in man. Aram, however, denotes the intellect. The intellect has its foundation in Spirit, yet in unawakened man it has linked itself so completely with the outer, material world that it reasons almost entirely from the senses instead of receiving its inspirations consciously from Spirit. For this reason man believes that much physical effort is needed to make a living and to acquire abundance; thus he experiences hard labor and many inharmonies (vale of trial). This is signified by Gether; the thought is expressed very clearly in Genesis 3:17 (latter part of verse) and 19 (first clause).
