Gera in the Bible — Hidden Meaning & Symbolism

grain; kernel; scraping; rough; enmity; a pilgrimage; sojourn. The name of several Israelitish men of the tribe of Benjamin; one was a son of Benjamin (Gen. 46:21; Judg. 3:15; II Sam. 16:5). Meta. Faith taking on substance, or working in substance (grain). Apart from true understanding, faith is likely to become aggressive and hard, and to hold enmity against that which is true and of God, as was the case when Shimei, the son of Gera, cursed David and threw stones at him when he was fleeing from Absalom (II Sam. 16:5-8). It does not wish to give way to love, but faith must work by love and must be established in spiritual understanding before it can be relied upon as a sure factor in always working to bring about man's good.
