Belial in the Bible — Hidden Meaning & Symbolism
worthlessness; badness; lawlessness; wickedness; evil; destruction; nothingness. Any man or woman who was considered wicked, worthless, lawless, or licentious might be called a son or daughter of Belial. (See Deut. 13:13; Judg. 19:22; I Sam. 1:16, and II Sam. 16:7; in these texts"Belial" is used in the A. V.) Belial is not the name of any individual, except that in the New Testament it is used as an appellative of Satan (II Cor. 6:15). Meta. Belial refers to the Adversary, or (in our interpretation) to the adverse consciousness in man.
