A phase of consciousness that is contaminated with error (defiled, polluted, infamous, profaned), which is the result of the race habit of attributing honor and precedence to old-established religious beliefs and customs to the exclusion of present spiritual inspiration (a Jewish man, the father of the blind beggar, Bartimæus; see BARTIMÆUS).
