Shemed in the Bible — Hidden Meaning & Symbolism
Shemed (A. V.. Shamed), she'-med (Heb.)-- astonishment; cut off; cast down; persecuted; laid waste; extinct; destroyed. Son of Elpaal. He and his brothers, Eber and Misham,"built Ono and Lod, with the towns thereof" (I Chron. 8:12). Meta. Shemed refers to one's putting away error by denial. There is in the sense of this name a tendency to magnify the seeming evil (astonishment) and to make denials very emphatic, with the thought of utterly destroying the evil (cut off, cast down, laid waste, extinct, destroyed).
