Cnidus in the Bible — Hidden Meaning & Symbolism

nettle; scratch; irritate; tickle. A seaport town on a peninsula of the same name, which Paul passed while on his voyage to Rome:"And when we had sailed slowly many days, and were come with difficulty over against Cnidus, the wind not further suffering us, we sailed under the lee of Crete, over against Salmone" (Acts 27: 7). Meta. Paul, the word of Truth, was being taken to Rome (Paul bound at Rome represents the word of Truth confined to the intellect) in bonds, and the voyage was very hazardous; it was beset by carnal thoughts and desires of the" mind of the flesh" (Crete means carnal, fleshly); also by the vexed, irritated (nettle, irritate) state of mind that always results from waste of substance in sense ways (tickle, referring to sensual pleasures). This state of mind is Cnidus. It contends with the Truth, which is seeking to establish throughout man's whole being the realization of perfection, abiding life, health, Truth, and spirituality.
