Chislev in the Bible — Hidden Meaning & Symbolism

Chislev (A.V., Chisleu), ch;s'-lev (Heb.)-- hopeful; confident; Mars; Orion; a hunter. The three latter definitions are in dispute. The third month of the Jewish civil year, and the ninth of their ecclesiastical year (Neh. 1:1; Zech. 7:1), beginning with the new moon in December. The name came from the Persian names of months, which the Jews used after their captivity in Babylon. Meta. A hopeful, confident attitude of mind. In individual consciousness divisions of time refer to degrees of unfoldment. Things that are spiritual and eternal cannot be measured by days, months, and years, but by steps or degrees in unfoldment and attainment. (See TIME.)
