Metaphysical meaning of Beth-arbel (mbd) Beth-arbel, beth-är'-bel (Heb.)-- house of God's ambush; house of God's lying-in-wait; house of God's watching; house of God's windows;)louse of God's court. A place that was destroyed by Shalman, or Shalmaneser, king of Assyria (Hos. 10:14). It was a fortified place, apparently, and belonged to the Israelites, but was overthrown because they did not remain true to their worship of the one God. Meta. The working out of the divine law in a way seemingly adverse to the higher religious thoughts of the consciousness (Israelites), in that the light and joy of their oneness with God is lost to them for a time. (Beth-arbel was destroyed by Shalmaneser, king of Assyria; Shalmaneser signifies a very destructive tendency in man. A court is a place where justice is administered, and an ambush bespeaks an unseen peril or attack.)
