Bel in the Bible — Hidden Meaning & Symbolism
lord. The Aramaic form of Baal (Isa. 46.1). Bel is mentioned in connection with Babylon, and refers to the Babylonish god (Jer. 50:2; 51:44). It is not certain whether it was the planet Jupiter or the sun that was worshiped under the name of Bel. Bel, however, is virtually the same name as Baal. Meta. See BAAL and ASHTORETH.
