Ashtoreth in the Bible — Hidden Meaning & Symbolism
the goddess Astarte; a star; riches; abundance; love; good fortune. The principal Phoenician or Sidonian goddess (I Kings 11: 5). Meta. Inasmuch as Ashtoreth relates to the moon and stars, it seems to refer to the rule of the intellect instead of the rule of Spirit. Since lustful practices formed the chief part of her worship, Ashtoreth also stands for sensuality, which man in carnal mind cultivates in the belief that it is essential to his well-being, instead of lifting his thoughts and acts to the Christ standard of purity. (See ASHERIM, ASHEROTH, ASHTAROTH, and ASHERAH.)
